2025 BCO Awards finalist

March 2025
The refurbishment of Plant Basingstoke — formerly Mountbatten House — is a finalist project in this year’s British Council of Offices Awards in the Refurbished/Recycled Workplace category for the South of England and South Wales region.

The Grade II listed six-storey complex was designed by Arup Associates’ Peter Foggo in 1973 and completed in 1976. We worked on the structural and civil and engineering for its refurbishment. Historic England has recognised the structure as one of the country’s 15 most important post-war office buildings.

Plant Basingstoke, formerly Mountbatten House

Massively ahead of its time, the design incorporates landscaped terraces with planting flowing over stepped-back facades. The refurbishment architectural intention was low-intervention Cat A office refit, involving minimal structural interventions but requiring a thorough understanding of the structure. We played a crucial role in informing the team on the structural principles and behaviour of the existing structure.
