Fuorisalone 2025 / Milan Design Week

April 2025
Whitby Wood, in collaboration with One Works, presents Magma: at the origins of creativity — an immersive installation, part of Interni Magazine’s Cre-Action event during the upcoming Fuorisalone 2025, Milan Design Week.

Magma represents nature as an environment in continuous change, inviting humanity to cope with change through creativity and action. Since the dawn of humanity, cultural differences, sensibilities and knowledge have characterised the act of building. Magma wants to go further, stressing the ancient ties between humanity and nature and the need for a balanced relationship, despite the unpredictability and complexity that derive from it.

To represent the transformative and generative power of nature, the installation adopts the model of plate tectonics, recounting how the surface of the planet has formed over the course of geological eras, creating and recreating itself. The movement of the earth’s plates, their shifts and the flow of magma are imagined through an immersive experience as an interlacing of surfaces and geometric corridors in which the visitor perceives the frailty of all living beings in the face of natural forces.

The installation evokes a fragmented landscape.
